This video shows exactly how to STOP a dog JUMPING UP! Rewards and corrections are both used to achieve a well behaved dog.
Dogs jump up on us to gain attention. We must NOT give any attention during the jumping up behavior.
We have to REWARD and give attention when the dog is standing or sitting. Rewards are: attention, food, toys.
We also gain the best results by mildly CORRECTING the dog for jumping up.
In this video we use a remote static collar on a low setting to correct the dog while she jumps up. This is the beagle puppy’s very first lesson with the remote collar. She was all positively trained prior to this video to learn that sit = food. This is why you see the beagle puppy quickly offering the “sit”. She has already learned with all positive teaching that choosing to “sit” gains her rewards. You can also see that the black fluffy puppy has zero training and has not learned that sit=food. It takes 3-6 lessons using a mild correction for a dog to understand our new rules to “not jump up”.
Be careful to NOT give any attention or verbal correction while the dog is jumping up. Only acknowledge the dog while she is standing or sitting.
Let the dog decide what she wants to do. She can choose to jump up & gain a correction. She can choose to stand or sit and gain a reward.
